PRAIRIE LAKES TO OFFER FREE DOCTOR TALKS AND HEALTH SCREENINGS AT FARM SHOW

Prairie Lakes Healthcare System will be offering free presentations given by Prairie Lakes’ doctors and health screenings daily during the Watertown Winter Farm Show. The farm show takes place Feb. 7 through 11 at the Codington County Extension Complex and National Guard Armory located at 1910 West Kemp Avenue in Watertown.

Every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prairie Lakes will be offering free health information, weekly pill dispensers and blood pressure checks at its booth located in the National Guard Armory.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7 at noon medical oncologist and hematologist, Dr. Bipin Amin, will talk about "the good, the bad, and the ugly" of chemotherapy. He will share the information all cancer patients and their families should know before the start of therapy and answer audience questions. This will be followed by a 1 p.m. talk presented by interventional cardiologist, Dr. Sairav Shah, titled “Tick-Tock—Your Heart the Clock.” Dr. Shah will discuss heart health issues and answer audience questions. Also on Tuesday, Prairie Lakes will be offering body composition screenings at its booth from 2 to 5 p.m.

On Wednesday, Feb. 8 farm show attendees can have their heart health questions answered by interventional cardiologist, Dr. Salem Maaliki. He will be hosting a Cardiology Question and Answer session from noon to 1 p.m. Also on Wednesday, Prairie Lakes will be offering blood sugar testing at its booth from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Thursday, Feb. 9 at noon nephrologist, Dr. Tina Melanson, will present “Risk Factors for Chronic Kidney disease. Could it happen to you?” One in two people has serious risk factors for developing chronic kidney disease. Audience members will learn how kidney disease could affect them or a loved one.

On Friday, Feb. 10, the public is invited to learn about the most common type of heart disease in the United States, coronary artery disease, which can lead to a heart attack. At noon, interventional cardiologist, Dr. Evelio Garcia, will share information about heart disease, its effects on the body, risk factors and prevention.

All talks take place in Classroom C of the Codington County Extension Complex. All screenings take place at the Prairie Lakes’ booth located in the National Guard Armory.
