DR. MELANSON HONORED BY THE NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION

The National Kidney Foundation, Inc., (NKF) serving Minnesota, the Dakotas and Iowa, honored Tina Melanson, MD, FNKF, of Prairie Lakes Healthcare System with the 2012 Friend of the Foundation Award. Dr. Melanson was presented the award at the annual Feast of the Great Chefs in Sioux Falls on Sunday, March 11, 2012.
“Dr. Melanson has been a longtime, passionate advocate and supporter of the National Kidney Foundation’s important work in South Dakota,” said Jill Evenocheck, National Kidney Foundation Division President.
Dr. Melanson serves on the South Dakota NKF board of directors, volunteers at annual free kidney health screenings and fundraises for numerous events. In 2011, Dr. Melanson’s career took her to Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in Watertown, S.D. where she practices nephrology and serves as medical director to the Prairie Lakes Dialysis Units. Dr. Melanson has led the way to establish the first annual Watertown Kidney Walk, Fun Run and Bike-a-Thon to be held in May.
“The National Kidney Foundation and the patients we serve have greatly benefited from Dr. Melanson’s talents, dedication and commitment to our life-saving work,” said Evenocheck.
Dr. Melanson is board certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Prior to joining Prairie Lakes, Dr. Melanson practiced in Sioux Falls and provided outreach services to surrounding communities. In July 2011, Dr. Melanson was nominated and awarded a National Kidney Foundation Fellowship (FNKF). These fellowships recognize physicians for their education activities and community service in promoting the mission of the National Kidney Foundation.
