DR. JOHN STRANSKY HONORED AT BASH
POSTED: MAR 14, 2012

Dr. John J. Stransky, a life-long physician in Watertown, has been named the honorary chairman for the Prairie Lakes Healthcare Foundation’s annual BASH gala to be held April 14 at the Watertown Event Center.

“We are thrilled to be able to honor Dr. Stransky in this way,” said Foundation Board President Brad Johnson. “He has shown a deep commitment to the health of our community and the advancement of healthcare in Watertown.”

Stransky retired from Brown Clinic in 1997 after spending nearly 50 years at that clinic, including 17 years as its Medical Director. Stransky graduated from the Minnesota Medical School in 1947 and spent his entire professional career in Watertown, except for his internship and surgery residency and 2 years as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force. He served as an associate professor with the University of South Dakota’s School of Medicine from 1982 to 1997.

Stransky has been involved extensively in the community, participating in Rotary; the Chamber of Commerce; district, state and national medical societies; Prairie Lakes hospital staff, Hospice and Foundation; and many others. He was a founding member of Holy Name Parish.

Stransky describes himself as a Christian, husband, father, physician, citizen and friend. He was married for 60 years to his wife Buzz, and was blessed with five daughters.

According to Johnson, Stransky is the inaugural BASH honorary chairman as the spring gala evolves from a fund-raiser to a “friend-raiser.” This year’s event will feature a live auction, raffle, gourmet meal, and music by The Confidentials, a 10-piece dance band from Omaha, NE.
Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Caring Clubhouse, a hospitality house on the hospital campus that is available to patients, outpatients and family members who are receiving care at Prairie Lakes’ facilities.

Tickets for BASH are on sale for $75 and include a raffle ticket. Raffle tickets also are available separately for $25 and there are five prizes including the top prize of a 64-inch 3-D capable plasma television. The event is open to the general public. Call the Prairie Lakes Healthcare Foundation Office at 605-882-7631 to purchase tickets or for more information.
