YELLOW ROSE WEEK SET FOR JUNE 4-8
POSTED: MAY 18, 2012
The Suzanne Jacobson Memorial Fund committee has designated June 4-8, 2012, as Yellow Rose Week in the Watertown area. Yellow Rose Week is the primary means of financing the Suzanne Jacobson Memorial Fund. The Suzanne Jacobson Memorial Fund provides grants to people within our region with life-threatening illnesses that are in need of financial assistance due to a medical crisis.
Suzanne Jacobson spent her adult life involved in the healing arts. She began her healthcare career as a registered nurse, and later became a physician’s assistant. During her life she positively impacted the lives of many people through her care, concern and professionalism.
Suzanne lost a long battle with cancer in 1998. Her family and friends have established the Suzanne Jacobson Memorial Fund (SJMF) as a way to continue her caring by helping people facing major medical financial stresses.
Applications are reviewed by a local committee to ensure requirements of eligibility and necessity are met. Grants have been provided to assist with the cost of medications, transportation to and from medical appointments and the purchase of groceries. Since its inception in 1999, the SJMF has provided approximately $211,215 through 247 grants. We need your support to continue this much needed program!
During Yellow Rose Week, the public may purchase single yellow roses at several Watertown businesses including Great Western Bank (both locations), Plains Commerce Bank, Dacotah Bank, Reliabank (both locations), The Blossom Shoppe, Dorale’s Footwear & Fashions, The Goss Opera House, Hy-Vee Courtesy Counter, Little River City, Sanford Clinic Watertown, Haugan-Nelson Realty, Mahowald’s Hardware, Makepeace Jewelers, Prairie Lakes Hospital Gift Shop, Watertown Ford Chrysler, The Wheel Inn, Fischer Rounds & Associates and Jenkins Living Center. Other surrounding towns include: Waverly Steakhouse & Lounge, Jeffrey’s Supperclub & Lounge and First PREMIER Bank in Kranzburg, RJ’s Corner Bar & Grill in South Shore, South Shore Mercantile, Clark Flower & Gift Shop, Berens Warehouse Groceries in Milbank, and the Sisseton Flower Shop.
Every purchase of a single yellow rose ($5), a Caring Bouquet ($20) or a Love Bouquet ($40) not only brings joy to the recipient, but much needed help for someone in a medical crisis. Orders may also be placed by completing and faxing in the order form found on www.prairielakes.com or by calling the Prairie Lakes Healthcare Foundation office at 605-882-7631.
Deliveries will be available in Watertown and the Lake Kampeska area for orders of six roses or more. The Suzanne Jacobson Memorial Fund is a service of the Prairie Lakes Healthcare Foundation.
