MEDICAL ONCOLOGIST JOINS PRAIRIE LAKES CANCER CENTER POSTED: JUN 25, 2012 Dr. Homam Alkaied, medical oncologist and hematologist, has joined the medical staff at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in Watertown. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancer and blood diseases. His approach to cancer care is all encompassing, treating the whole human being. “I look forward to working at the Prairie Lakes Cancer Center because everyone believes in collaborative and collegial teamwork to deliver the best quality of care possible to patients,” said Dr. Alkaied. “We share the goal of helping patients and feel proud and privileged to be able to do so.” Dr. Alkaied is the second medical oncologist/hematologist to join the team at the Prairie Lakes Cancer Center. He will join Dr. Bipin Amin, medical oncologist/hematologist; Dr. Jeffrey Brindle, radiation oncologist; and Kristina Rieffenberger, nurse practitioner, in offering comprehensive cancer care to patients. “We continually evaluate the healthcare needs of people living in the region and work to meet those needs. This includes recruiting physicians to provide specialty care,” said Jill Fuller, CEO of Prairie Lakes Healthcare System. “The addition of Dr. Alkaied to the Cancer Center team speaks to our commitment to provide quality, comprehensive cancer care to patients close to home.” Dr. Alkaied is board certified in Internal and Geriatric Medicine and board eligible in Medical Oncology and Hematology. He completed his Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York. Dr. Alkaied also completed his Internal Medicine residency and Geriatric Medicine fellowship at Staten Island University Hospital. He completed medical school at the Damascus University Medical School in Damascus, Syria. Dr. Alkaied is now seeing patients at the Prairie Lakes Cancer Center.
