POSITION:       Registered Nurse - Mallard Pointe OR Circulator/Scrub RN

STATUS:           Full Time .8/ FTE

DEPARTMENT:  Mallard Pointe Surgical Center

POSITION SUMMARY - Provides peri-operative general nursing care for all patients in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, licensure, and scope of practice of the RN. Utilizes the nursing process in providing care and includes the process in documentation, identifying unusual conditions, and utilizing initiative and judgment to carry out appropriate response. Assesses patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies peri-operative team members of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents through the peri-operative event. Assures that surgeon preference equipment and supplies are available for surgery. Assists anesthesia provider with the patient preparation for anesthesia. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques. May assume or train for scrub nurse, first assistant duties, as necessary, based on prior experience.  Demonstrates flexibility for float assignment in outpatient surgery setting.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS   Graduate of an approved Registered Nurse Program. Minimum of two (2) years surgical experience in medical/surgical nursing and “scrub” experiences. Holds or is eligible for current licensure in the State of South Dakota. CPR required. ACLS recommended. PALS certification desirable.
