WATERTOWN, S.D. – May 5, 2025 – Prairie Lakes Healthcare System (PLHS) is proud to announce the start of construction on an upgraded equipment project at the Prairie Lakes Cancer Center, marking a major investment in local cancer care.
A new vault is being constructed to house an upgraded linear accelerator (LINAC) — a state-of-the-art machine used to deliver highly precise radiation therapy for cancer patients. This upgrade will replace the existing LINAC and will allow Prairie Lakes to continue offering cutting-edge treatment options and improve outcomes for patients throughout the region.
“This project represents our ongoing dedication to providing advanced cancer care right here in Watertown,” said John Allen, President and CEO of PLHS. “The new LINAC will significantly enhance our radiation therapy capabilities and ensure our patients have access to the most current cancer treatment options, close to home.”
Patient care and treatment at the Cancer Center will continue uninterrupted during construction. The project has been carefully planned to ensure minimal disruption and a safe, comfortable experience for all patients.
The Cancer Center is located just across the parking lot to the east of the main Prairie Lakes campus. Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of the year.
